Founded in 1839, Patek Philippe stands as one of the absolute pillars of high watchmaking, synonymous with discretion, technical rigor, and enduring value. Family-owned since 1932 under the Stern dynasty, it remains the last independent, family-run manufacture in Geneva—an increasingly rare status that reinforces its cultural and horological weight.

Produced over a span of 23 years starting in 1944, reference 1593 represents one of the manufacture’s earliest and most daring departures from traditional round cases. Fewer than 1,000 examples were made in total, with approximately 500 crafted in yellow gold, making this configuration the most emblematic of the series. The distinctive hourglass-shaped case, defined by alternating concave and convex curves, was executed by master case maker Markowski (Geneva Key 8). Measuring 26 × 42 mm, it offers elegant proportions with remarkable wrist presence for its era.

Powering the watch is the celebrated caliber 9'''90, a hand-wound movement specifically designed to follow the tonneau architecture of the case. Renowned for its robustness and refined finishing, it features Geneva stripes, a compensation balance, and micrometric regulation and it has just been fully serviced. The silvered dial is animated by applied yellow-gold Arabic numerals, faceted triangular and dot markers, subsidiary seconds, and leaf-shaped gold hands—an ensemble that perfectly balances geometry and classic Patek restraint.

Accompanied by its original yellow-gold Patek Philippe pin buckle and an Extract from the Archives confirming production in 1955 and sale in December 1956, this watch stands as a rare and historically important example of mid-century Genevan creativity.
