Designed by Gérald Genta in 1954 at just 23 years old, the Universal Genève Polerouter marked the beginning of one of the most legendary careers in watch design. Created to commemorate Scandinavian Airlines Systems (SAS) launching transpolar flights from Europe to Los Angeles and New York, the Polerouter was named after the pioneering route, which dramatically cut travel time by flying over the magnetic North Pole. To endure these conditions, the watch was engineered to be anti-magnetic, cementing its status as a true tool for pilots.
Offered here is the Polerouter De Luxe ref. 10234-1, a rare and elegant variant in 18kt pink gold, featuring a matching salmon 18kt dial and central seconds — a configuration that radiates warmth and subtle luxury. At 36mm, its case strikes the perfect balance between vintage proportion and modern wearability. Powered by the revered caliber 138SS, a vintage bumper automatic movement that was used in early Polerouter models, specifically the first versions produced in the late 1940s and early 1950s. This movement predates the more well-known micro-rotor movements found in later Polerouters.
A cult classic among collectors, this Polerouter captures the romance of early transcontinental aviation and the creative spark of a young Genta. It comes just serviced and paired with a blue crocodile strap.
