The story of the Rolex Submariner is an illustrious one, making history in 1953 as the world’s first dive watch capable of being water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters (330 feet).
When the Submariner hit the market in the 1950s, the watch was only produced in steel. It featured a time-only dial, a bi-directional bezel, and was water-resistant up to 100 meters.
The 16808 was launched together with the 16800 in 1979.
