The name “Daytona” comes from the car racetrack in Florida. Sir Malcolm Campbell - professional race car driver - set the world record of 245mph there in 1931. The founder or Rolex, Hans Wildorf, saw an opportunity and asked the well known driver to become an ambassador for Rolex watches, which he was happy to do.
This Daytona ref.116523-0056 is extremely rare. The steel/gold combo, mother-of-pearl dial and diamond hour markers make it an extremely beautiful piece With its two-tone coloring, steel and 18k gold, it has arguably the most versatility compared to its all steel and all gold stable mates. It’s easy to forget the Daytona was designed first and foremost as a robust tool watch for serious professionals, rather than as a statement piece. The Rolesor version is smart enough to pair with business suits and not so flashy it would look out of place behind the wheel of an endurance racecar
Rolex’s Mother of Pearl (MOP) watches stand out as masterpieces of sophistication, beauty, and craftsmanship, transcending mere timekeeping to become iridescent art pieces.
The cutting and setting of diamonds as indexes is another major workhorse of Rolex's most exclusive collections . Currently our Daytona MOP-Diamonds is the only one on the EU market, with a total of 5 in the world for sale. Its rarity is easily explained.
The watch is super full set, with even the original price tag. It is a first owner and the official London boutique warranty states "MOP dial with 8 diamonds." A collector's piece that winks at investment.
