Brand: Rolex
Typology: Vintage dresswatch
Year: 1974

The Rolex Datejust reference 1603 represents one of the purest expressions of the classic four-digit Datejust era: restrained, elegant, and unmistakably Rolex. Produced in 1974, this example belongs to a particularly charming transitional period where vintage proportions, pie-pan aesthetics and warm materials still defined the collection before later sapphire-era evolutions changed its character forever.

What immediately elevates this watch is its beautiful white Sigma dial. Sigma dials were produced for a relatively short period and are today highly appreciated by collectors because the small σ marks at the bottom of the dial indicate the use of solid white gold elements on the watch. In this case, the hands and the applied indexes.

The warm tritium plots have aged consistently, perfectly complementing the soft tone of the plexiglass crystal, which gives the watch a depth and distortion impossible to replicate with modern sapphire. Combined with the iconic folded Jubilee bracelet, the result is exactly what collectors seek in a vintage Datejust: lightness on the wrist.
