Established in 1839, it is named after two of its founders, Antoni Patek and Adrien Philippe. Since 1932, the company has been owned by the Stern family in Switzerland and remains the last family-owned independent watch manufacturer in Geneva.
Produced for 23 years beginning in 1944, the Patek Philippe reference 1593 nicknamed the "Hour Glass" was one of the first non-traditional shaped watches from the manufacturer. Approximately only 1000 examples were created of reference 1593 with 500 in yellow gold, 250 in pink gold, and 250 in platinum.
This special hour glass shaped case with concave and convex lines was created by master casemaker Markowski (Geneva Key 8), 26x42 mm. Powering the watch is the mighty caliber 9'90 which wonderfully matches the shape of the case.
This Patek Philippe features ,a just serviced, calibre 9”’90 Geneva striped tonneau-form movement, lever escapement, 18 jewels, compensation balance, 19,800 BPH, micrometer regulator; silvered dial, applied yellow gold Arabic, faceted triangular and dot numerals, subsidiary seconds, yellow gold feuille hands; substantial 18ct yellow gold rectangular two-piece case, deeply flared with satin finish, flat satin finished snap-on case back; case, dial and movement signed; accompanied by the original 18ct yellow gold Patek Philippe pin buckle mounted on a genuine black ostrich strap.
