The OMEGA Speedmaster was first introduced in 1957 as a racing watch, but it was not until the early 1960s that it became famous for its role in space exploration. In 1962, NASA began testing watches for its space program, and the Speedmaster was one of the few that passed the rigorous testing procedures.

The design of the Moonwatch has remained largely unchanged over the years, with its iconic black dial, white hands and markers, and tachymeter bezel. The watch is powered by the OMEGA Caliber 1861 movement, a manual-winding movement that has been in production since 1968.

In addition to its association with space exploration, the Moonwatch has also been worn by many famous figures throughout history, including President John F. Kennedy, who reportedly wore a Speedmaster on his inauguration day in 1961.

Today, the OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch is still in production and is considered one of the most iconic and recognizable watches in the world. It has inspired numerous limited-edition models and special editions, but the classic design of the original Moonwatch remains the most popular.
