From the very beginning, the history of Longines has been characterized by the brand's pioneering spirit, constant pursuit of the highest precision and a vision of timeless elegance. This has meant that famous pioneers and sports associations around the world have relied on Longines' timepieces and all of its timekeeping expertise.
Longines had celebrate their 180th anniversary in 2012, and they had released a special collection to celebrate. A limited edition Single Push-Piece Chronograph, which is an awesome vintage-inspired column-wheel, mono-pusher chronograph.
There's no mistaking the vintage inspiration on this watch. The vintage-style lugs, white lacquer dial, fancy arabic numerals, blued steel hands, script logo, and crown design all scream vintage, but in a cool way. It would be easy for this watch to slip into costume territory, but it avoids it nicely. It's definitely more of a dress chronograph, but I could see myself wearing it in sportier situations as well.
The movement is nicely decorated, as is the rim of the case back. You even get a date window at 6 o'clock that doesn't intrude on the aesthetics of the chronograph at all. The all-important action on the single pusher is clean and crisp, with a nice "click."
This 40mm watch is a limited edition out of 180 and features a solid 18k rose gold case and brown alligator strap, with its rose gold plated buckle.
The white laquer dial has blued steel hands, a date, single-pusher column-wheel chronograph, and a small seconds sub-dial. It is powered by the Longines Caliber L788 self-winding automatic movement with a 54-hour power reserve.
