In 1927 Charles Lindbergh made a solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean aboard a single-engine aircraft sticking only to maps and orienting himself with the stars.
At the end of that great feat he realized that a precision instrument would be much more useful those rudimentary methods of orientation.
In 1931, thanks to his directions and drawings and collaboration with naval officer Philip Weems, Longines began production of a timepiece called The Lindbergh Hour Angle Watch. It was the first navigational instrument capable of calculating, with one-second accuracy, longitude and exact geographical position.
The Longines Lindbergh became an extremely essential instrument used by entire generations of pilots and explorers. They were made in both silver and steel, the latter being much rarer.
The specimen we offer here has a steel case and is part of the earliest production with still the "claw" for setting the time.
It is in exceptional condition, never polished and with all original components.
