“I wanted something new, different”. Jack Heuer

He was, at that time, running the house founded by his great-grandfather. “Since the early 1960s, we had been number one in the field of stopwatch, but I felt that if you really wanted to see our brand break through with the general public, you had to come up with an innovative idea. So I imagined incorporating a sports counter into an automatic wristwatch. To baptise it, I looked for a name capable of appealing to a prestigious clientele. As Monte-Carlo was already taken, I chose Monaco ".

Heuer introduced the Monaco in 1969 alongside a trio of watches that housed one of the world's first automatic chronograph movements. As part of a coalition with Breitling, Hamilton, Dubois-Depraz, and Buren, Heuer introduced that self-winding design in 1969 with caliber 11. Collectors often refer to the Monaco as the "Steve McQueen" because the actor wore one in the 1971 movie, Le Mans. McQueen wore ref. 1133B (the B stands for blue dial) in the film, the exact reference that we're offering today. This example houses caliber 11, the original automatic chronograph movement that resulted from the coalition's efforts.

Our Monaco "Steve McQueen" is a Mark 1 and is in "as new" condition, even complete with its original NSA bracelet and all the kit (Incredible!).
