Chopard was founded by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in the Swiss village of Sonvilier. He was only 24 years old at the time. The brand quickly gained a reputation for creating precise pocket watches and chronometers. By the late 19th century, Chopard’s timepieces had garnered a strong following, especially among Eastern European and Scandinavian clients. The watches were known for their high quality and reliability.

In the 20th century, Chopard continued to innovate. The family expanded the brand’s reach and maintained a high standard of watchmaking. The brand faced difficulties during World War II and the subsequent economic hardships, which affected many luxury goods manufacturers. In 1963, Paul-André Chopard, having no successor to take over the family business, sold the company to Karl Scheufele III, a German goldsmith and watchmaker. This marked a new era of revitalization for Chopard, with the integration of fine jewelry into its offerings, broadening its market appeal.

This elegant and delicate piece was produced in the 1970s. Coming in a subtle fluting 18kt yellow gold three-step case, paired with a black lizard strap, the original buckle, it will be your tank-style piece, but with a unique feel.
Not only rare in terms of production, this watch features a striking obsidian dial, which, given the unique patina that each obsidian dial takes, makes it truly unique.
