The Breitling Navitimer is without a doubt one of the most iconic wristwatches ever made. Still produced by Breitling today with only minor variations, it remains instantly recognizable—thanks in part to its impressive size and its signature rotating slide rule bezel.
The Navitimer’s origins are deeply rooted in aviation: Breitling collaborated with the AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) to create a true instrument watch designed to offer maximum functionality to pilots. Using the now-iconic rotating internal slide rule, pilots could easily perform essential flight calculations. Its large 42 mm case ensured excellent legibility during flight, reinforcing its reputation as a professional tool watch.
With its double jet logo, the Ref. 806 stands as one of the most respected vintage Breitling references among collectors. Its value has steadily increased over recent years, making this particular example even more desirable. The watch comes with its original box, outer box (with reference), and booklet, and it remains in immaculate, unpolished condition.
The dial is flawless and glossy, while the case retains its original finish and sharp bevels. This specific piece is especially collectible as it represents a transitional model, identifiable by the rare “Boxed Ten”—a small red square surrounding the number 10 on the slide rule scale—produced only in very limited numbers.
The strap is crafted to the original specifications in red lizard leather with a single keeper, and it is accompanied by the extremely rare original buckle. The paper-made slide rule (inner bezel) is particularly delicate, as is the dial, which is often found with moisture damage—yet this example remains perfect, with an exceptional patina.
It’s hard to imagine a finer or more complete specimen. This is truly a collector-grade Navitimer in every respect.
